I am a Professor in Finance at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai. Currently, I serve as Head of the CAMS-IITM Fintech Innovation Lab, Coordinator of the IITM Nodal Centre for GURUSETU - National Initiative for Capacity Building of Faculty (NICBF), Programme Coordinator for the Executive MBA in Strategic Leadership and Public Policy, and Programme Co-coordinator for the MBA in Digital Maritime and Supply Chain.

I previously headed the Department of Management Studies at IIT Madras for a period of three years, and before that, I served as the Director of the National Institute of Securities Markets, Mumbai.

I have rich experience of more than three decades and am well known for my contributions in the domain of financial markets, financial modeling, corporate finance and governance. I am known for my contributions in using AI based models in financial market prediction for more than 25 years. My recent work includes development of a framework for unclaimed funds in banks and mutual funds, an AI based model for predicting frauds, developing a Fintech Index, developing an ESG index, carbon risk mitigation, developing a robo advisory model for investments, the impact of digital payments and banking, and prediction models for credit risk management for banks.

I actively engage with industry and offer skill development programmes at various levels. Recently, I also conducted a data analytics programme for senior accounts officers at the Tamil Nadu government. I led the team at IIT Madras in developing the Vision document for Tamil Nadu@100 along with CII, Chennai in 2024-25.

I set up the CAMS IITM Fintech Innovation Lab to develop solutions for unsolved issues in the area of fintech applications, particularly in the banking and finance sector, and to develop and mentor startups in the fintech domain. Visit: https://cifil.iitm.ac.in/

I am a distinguished alumnus of Ethiraj College for Women, Chennai (2024) and a rank holder of the University of Madras. I have been ranked among the top 100 women in finance in India in 2019 and 2020 by AIWMA. I am an Executive Endeavour Fellow of the Australian Government and a recipient of the Fulbright-Nehru Visiting Lecturer Fellowship and the European Union Erasmus Mundus Scholarship. I am a National Award winner for developing the best manufacturing policy draft for India, awarded by former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the National Manufacturing Sector Policy Competition organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and We Think for India (WTI) Forum. I am a recipient of the EXIM Bank Chair Professorship in Finance, offered by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. I have international teaching/research experience with UPM Madrid, the University of Passau (Germany), Lagos Business School (Nigeria), QUT Brisbane, and San Diego State University (US).

I have several publications and have won several best research paper awards for my research work, both at the national and international level. I received the Best Researcher Award in Commerce (2020) from the K.P. Muraleedharan Endowment Trust, Calicut University. My pioneering work includes financial market price discovery models, hybrid AI and Support Vector Machine based prediction models for stock market trading and investing, models to test information transmission between markets, policy implications of family and promoter driven firms' governance, and country-level determinants of FDI and cross-border acquisitions. I have published papers in journals such as Pacific Basin Journal of Finance, Emerging Markets Review, Research in International Business and Finance, Neural Computing and Applications, Management Decision, International Journal of Banking, Accounting and Finance, International Journal of Emerging Markets, Decision, IIMB Management Review, and Journal of Emerging Market Finance.
